While choosing a dress has always been your decision alone, the same cannot be said for the outfit for your son’s wedding. There are several factors involved in the decision-making and you should follow them to make the occasion an event to remember. Here are some of to keep in mind, regardless of whether you ultimately decide on a flowing gown or a sequined mother of the groom pant suit.

Coordinate with the mother of the bride: It is the norm for the mother of the bride to select her dress first and then inform the mother of the groom about it. Hence, you should coordinate with her, preferably from the planning stage so that your dresses will complement each other. This will not only help both of you to stand out in the crowd but also be in sync in the wedding photographs. Both don’t need to wear the same type of dress. While she wears a gown, you can opt for a mother of the groom pant suit. But keep the colors and the fabric as close as possible.

· Do not wear white, off-white, ivory, or champagne-colored dresses. These are exclusive bridal colors and nothing should take the focus away from her. Further, ask the mother of the bride about the color of the dress of the bridesmaids. That should be avoided too though a darker or lighter shade of the color is permissible. You should not have any problems as the options for a mother of the groom pant suit are many and they are available in gorgeous and stunning colors.

· Ensure that your dress is in tune with the formality of the wedding. The most formal is a strict black-tie church wedding where a sweeping gown covering the ankles or a dressy and sequined mother of the groom pant suit in not-so-flashy colors will be appropriate. On the other hand, a summer dress, a midi, or a dress showing the ankles will be just right for a beach wedding. Unless you follow the formality, you will be the odd one out at the wedding and the photographs.

· Dress conservatively and avoid audacious and complex attire even for informal settings. A wedding after all is a solemn occasion, regardless of where or when it is held. As the mother of the groom, you have an image to live up to.

Before arriving at a final decision, talk to your son about your dress. The couple might have decided on a theme or a dress code and you have to follow the same.
